A short history of TecMate SA
Established in 1996 to take over the manufacturing of products for export to Europe, Canada and USA of professional dealer / shop tool products such as BatteryMate, IgnitionMate, VacuumMate, SyncroMate and CarbMate and multi-station professional battery chargers OptiMate PRO-S, PRO-2, PRO-4 and PRO-8, that were recommended by motorcycle OEMs including Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha.
The AccuMate PRO battery charger line was manufactured for export and resale to the South African consumer. OptiMate high performance battery chargers are imported and distributed to customers such as Makro, Shoprite Checkers, Builders Warehouse Stores and more.
Tecmate South Africa, as part of TecMate International, is the official distributor of all OptiMate High Performance Battery Chargers, OptiMate Solar and TecMate Dealer products in Southern Africa.

Our heritage
Three decades of pushing harder
TecMate International was founded in Belgium in 1994, building on a legacy of professional battery and diagnostic tool development that stretches back to 1988. What started as a niche solution for neglected lead-acid batteries became a global benchmark for the industry.
1994
TecMate International was founded in Belgium on 1 September 1994, to continue the development and manufacturing of professional battery charging, battery testing and engine troubleshooting and tuning tools that had started in 1988 through a sister company Eurogarden.
1995
The first OptiMate battery saving charger for consumers was released, with the purpose of saving AGM, GEL and STD lead-acid batteries that have stopped working simply due to neglect. The OptiMate battery saving process is revered and trusted by global motorcycle and performance automotive OEMs and consumers alike.
1996
TecMate South Africa was established, to directly control manufacturing of diagnostic tools and professional battery chargers made primarily for the power sport industry.
2004
TecMate North America was established in Canada, to directly control distribution of product into North, Central and South America.
2005
An Engineering facility that controls product Research and Development, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance was established in Canada. All TecMate products are designed in Canada and global manufacturing is controlled from Canada.
2010
The unique OptiMate Lithium charging method was developed, to safely recover, charge, test and maintain Li-Ion LFP (LiFePo4) batteries. OptiMate Lithium is revered and trusted by global motorcycle and performance automotive OEMs and consumers alike.
2012
The OptiMate Accessories range was launched that included high quality cable and smart USB charging solutions. New accessories are continuously added to the range.
2014
TecMate released the first ECO friendly battery charging platform incorporating technology normally used in heavy industry, including power factor correction and synchronous rectification, in an effort to raise efficiency of charging to a new standard; 75% of incoming power is now delivered as charge to the battery, compared to the industry standard of 35–40%. All TecMate charger platforms now include ECO friendly technology.
2018
A range of solar battery charger product was released, with emphasis on ease of use and mount-ability.
2020
Building on the success of mountable solar kits, OptiMate Solar Travel Kits were launched. Solar Travel Kits include a unique and stable adjustable fold out stand with the entire kit stored in a nylon carry case.
2021
TecMate Japan was established in Tokyo, Japan, to directly control distribution of product into Japan and surrounding Asia Pacific Countries.
2022
A new range of OptiMate PRO professional battery charger products was launched, to better serve motorcycle and motorsport OEM customers.
2023
TecMate US was established in Birmingham, Alabama, USA, to directly control distribution of product within the USA.
